The first ever .22 BPCR mid range national Championship was competed Sunday at the Cheyenne Rifle and Pistol Club, Cheyenne, Wyoming. The club has been shooting this variation of BPTR mid-range for three years. At the request of the shooters who have shooting and enjoying this new sport the National Championship was born with competitors shooting 15 shots on each target, 45 shots for score, not the traditional 30 shots. We continue to use the full size 200 yard NRA target, the reduced 300 and 600 yard NRA targets all shot at 200 yards. This is not as easy as it may seem. Minor wind changes make for significant changes in where the bullets hit when shooting at 200 yards with 1070 fps .22 long rifle round. Pits are utilized as with the BPTR, marking the hits and scoring the hits, with the usual good natured conversation that goes with being in the pits. Most folks enjoyed the day and, even with the switching 15-20 W to SW winds, and were requesting another match in 2121. Yes there will be another one but, again, at the request of the shooters', it will be a two day a fair. 90 shots for score, with all targets shot in the any position. Dates to be determined based on the situation with the "black death" and whether other matches will be on the schedule. Stay tuned.

Several shooters deserve a comment. Jim Rodebaugh, with his faithful sidekick and spotter, Mark Pachares, prevailed and is the National Champion. Although arriving late and needing to catch up, Emily Anderson shot the most consistent scores of the day for the Woman Champion. Kenny Wasserburger, pit boss king, many thanks for you leadership for the new folks and helping Richard Stephenson and Jeff Dierksen put some repairs on the target frames that was needed and keeping the match on track. You made a heck of run for the match winner on the 600 yard target, 129 2X was outstanding in that crazy wind we got at the end. Don Talheim came over from Nebraska and this was his first match is several yeas, good to see ya back Don. Laramie County Sherriff Danny Glick came out and shot really well winning the Senior award. Think he is hooked! Tom Wengh shot well for his first time, Travis Purdam was right in the mix and ended up 4th in the standings, and Jeff Williamson, Cheyenne native who now lives in South Dakota, was also new shooter. Hope they will attend our future matches. Several of us are on our way to Byers next week for the BPTRA Creedmoor National Championships and appreciated the "trigger time".

After 45 shots for score with a 450 total possible, one broken rifle and several aw sh*t crossfires, the top seven shooters were within 9 points of each other. Great Shooting.

For those who want to see more, go to the .22 BPCRA Facebook page for photos and a video of the how the targets move up and down into the pits for shot marking and shot scoring. Know some folks are not familiar with the game, so there it is.

Nuff Said, here are the results.
